When it’s Advent it’s not only the candles that come out of hibernation, but my Christmas music. I play it almost exclusively for five to six weeks from the first Sunday in Advent. I’ll be sick of it by January, and then I’m happy to pack it away for another 45 weeks.
I have favourites, and I have different style albums that I like for different Christmas moods. But I like to start by playing Weihnachten mit Carreras, Domingo, Pavarotti. There is something so calm and beautiful about that album. The first track is Mille Cherubini, sung by José Carreras.
It’s not one I listened to as a child (the song, I mean) so it has no nostalgic values at all. It’s simply sneaked in and made me love it anyway.
